WILSON, N.C. – The Barton women's tennis team (6-3) make it three consecutive wins after a 7-0 blanking of Shaw (2-3) Monday afternoon at the Bulldogs' complex.
The Bulldogs – who also shut out their second straight opponent – were led by four players with victories in singles and doubles action: senior Vanessa Sanoja (Bolivar, VENEZUELA), sophomores Ada Vargas (Lima, PERU) and Claudia Capellades (Barcelona, SPAIN) and freshman Isabella Caballero (La Paz, BOLIVIA).
The four players picked up wins at No. 2 doubles (Sanoja and Vargas) and No. 3 doubles (Capellades and Caballero) to earn the doubles' point and preserve the shutout for the Bulldogs.
Caballero – with her victory over Shaw's Kundai Manyonga (Harare, ZIMBABWE) by a score of 6-1 and 6-3 at No. 4 singles – improved to 7-1 on the year in singles' competition.
Barton heads to Hilton Head Island, S.C., to take on Tiffin on Friday, March 8, at 8:30 a.m., while Shaw hosts Virginia Union on Friday as well.
