Barton men's volleyball sweeps Limestone, 3-0, to run winning streak to 11 matches

WILSON, N.C. – The Barton men's volleyball team (17-3, 11-1) remained in sole possession of first place in the Conference Carolinas standings with a 3-0 sweep of Limestone (10-9, 6-6) Saturday afternoon at Wilson Gymnasium.

The Bulldogs won by scores of 25-13, 25-18 and 25-21 and ran their winning streak to 11 contests.  Barton – ranked No. 2 in the Off the Block Division II Coaches Poll – also improved to 17-1 in its last 18 matches and swept its tenth opponent this season.

Barton was once again led by junior right side hitter Angelos Mandilaris (Chalkida, GREECE) with 13 kills – improving his season-high total to 306 – and hit .600 for the match while junior setter Oscar Fiorentino (Bayamon, PUERTO RICO) added 33 assists and seven digs as the Bulldogs swept the season series from the Saints.  Mandilaris is also 17 kills shy of 1,000 for his career.

Limestone – which dropped its second straight match – was led by Jordan Barreto (San Sebastian, PUERTO RICO) with 10 kills but the Saints hit just .072 for the contest.  Barton, meanwhile, finished with a .365 hitting percentage and totaled 10 blocks for the match.

Barton remains in league play on Tuesday when the Bulldogs travel to Mount Olive, N.C., to take Mount Olive beginning at 7:00 p.m., while Limestone takes on Belmont Abbey on the road on Tuesday beginning at 7:00 p.m., as well.
