MURFREESBORO, N.C. – The Barton College women's tennis team (9-4, 2-0) remained unbeaten in Conference Carolinas play with a 6-1 victory over Chowan (0-9, 0-3) Tuesday afternoon at the Rose Family Tennis Center.
Two players for the Bulldogs – junior Marissa Stevenson (Kirk Michael, ISLE OF MAN) and senior Vanessa Sanoja (Bolivar, VENEZUELA) – won at singles and doubles as Barton bounced back from a close setback last Saturday which snapped a five-match winning streak.
Stevenson improved to 10-1 on the year in singles competition after a 6-0, 6-0 victory at No. 2 singles over Chowan's Arina Karbolina (Almaty, KAZAKHSTAN). The No. 2 doubles' team of Stevenson and Sanoja also won its second straight match together: 6-3 over the Hawks' Julieta Lecce (Quinones, Argentina) and Angelique Gouin (Victoriaville, Quebec, CANADA).
Finally, freshman Isabella Caballero (La Paz, BOLIVIA) improved to 11-1 in singles play this year and ran her winning streak to 10 with a victory at No. 4 singles for the Bulldogs.
Barton remains on the road for a league contest on Friday, March 22, at 3:00 p.m., against Southern Wesleyan in Central, S.C., while Chowan travels to Tigerville, S.C., to take on North Greenville on Friday at 2:00 p.m.
