BELMONT, N.C. – The Barton women's tennis team (8-3, 1-0) broke into Conference Carolinas play with a 6-1 road win over Belmont Abbey (4-8, 1-1) Tuesday afternoon at the Reidy Center.

Three players – senior Vanessa Sanoja (Bolivar, VENEZUELA), freshman Isabella Caballero (La Paz, BOLIVIA) and sophomore Claudia Capellades (Barcelona, SPAIN) – all won at singles and doubles on the day to lead the Bulldogs to their fifth straight victory.

Both Capellades at No. 6 singles and senior Daria Avram (Buzau, ROMANIA) at No. 1 singles pulled out three-setters.  Capellades downed Belmont Abbey's Erica Dorn (Alpharetta, Ga.) by a score of 4-6, 6-3 and 10-2 while Avram came back to beat the Crusaders' Teagan McNamara (Maumee, Ohio), 6-4, 4-6 and 10-5 for her fourth straight singles' victory.

In addition, Caballero improved to 9-1 on the year in singles play while Barton junior Marissa Stevenson (Kirk Michael, ISLE OF MAN) remained unbeaten on the year (9-0) at second singles.

Barton returns home to host West Virginia State on Saturday at Noon while Belmont Abbey hosts Converse (10:30 a.m.) and Lander (3:00 p.m.) on Saturday as well.
