WILSON, N.C. – The Barton women's tennis team (4-3) rallied from a 3-1 deficit with victories in the final three singles matches to complete an improbable comeback for a 4-3 win over Bluefield State (0-7) Sunday afternoon at The Greenfield School.
The Bulldogs received victories from freshman Isabella Caballero (La Paz, BOLIVIA), sophomore Ada Vargas (Lima, PERU) and sophomore Claudia Capellades (Barcelona, SPAIN) at fourth, fifth and sixth singles, respectively, to complete the comeback and defeat the Big Blues for the second time this year (both scores were 4-3 in the Bulldogs' favor).
Capellades' victory over Paula Sa'ez (Daimiel, SPAIN) – 6-4 and 6-1 – at No. 6 singles proved to be the match-winner.
In addition, Barton junior Marissa Stevenson (Kirk Michael, ISLE OF MAN) improved to 5-0 on the year in singles play with a 6-1, 6-1 victory over Bluefield State's Milica Knezavic (Navi Sad, SERBIA).
Barton next hosts Edinboro (Pa.) on Saturday, March 2, at 10:00 a.m. Bluefield State hosts the University of the District of Columbia on Sunday at Noon.
