Barton men's volleyball notches third straight sweep, 3-0 over Lees-McRae

WILSON, N.C. – The Barton men's volleyball team (9-3, 5-1) swept its third consecutive opponent with a 3-0 victory over Lees-McRae (1-10, 0-8) Saturday afternoon at Wilson Gymnasium.  The Bulldogs won by scores of 25-18, 25-11 and 25-16 and took over sole possession of first place in the Conference Carolinas standings.

Barton was led by junior right side hitter Angelos Mandilaris (Chalkida, GREECE) with nine kills while freshman outside hitter Adrian Iglesias (Guaynabo, PUERTO RICO) added eight kills and five digs as the Bulldogs hit .444 for the contest in sending the Bobcats to their ninth straight setback.  Mandilaris leads the team in kills this year with 162.

Junior setter Oscar Fiorentino (Bayamon, PUERTO RICO) added 23 assists for the Bulldogs, who held the Bobcats to just a .116 hitting percentage for the match and registered nine service aces.  Lees-McRae was led by Drew Sims (Stevenson Ranch, Calif.) with seven kills and Nick Cookingham (Villa Park, Ill.) with 21 assists in the losing effort. 

Barton remains at home to take on rival Mount Olive in a league showdown Tuesday at 7:00 p.m., while Lees-McRae takes on North Greenville on the road in Tigerville, S.C., next Saturday beginning at 7:00 p.m.
