Box Score WILSON, N.C. – The Barton men's volleyball team (4-2, 1-0) opened Conference Carolinas play with a 3-0 sweep of Emmanuel (Ga.) (3-3, 0-2) Friday evening at Wilson Gymnasium. The Bulldogs won by scores of 25-22, 25-19 and 28-26.
Barton junior right side hitter Angelos Mandilaris (Chalkida, GREECE) finished with 19 kills and seven service aces while senior outside hitter Vasilis Mandilaris (Chalkida, GREECE) added 13 kills and six digs as the Bulldogs won their fourth straight contest. Angelos Mandilaris leads the team this season with 80 kills.
Emmanuel was led by Aleksa Lakic (Belgrade, SERBIA) finished with 13 kills and Don Thompson (Haiku, Hawaii) added 12 kills but the Lions suffered their second straight setback.
Junior setter Oscar Fiorentino (Bayamon, PUERTO RICO) dished out 37 assists for the Bulldogs, who rallied from a 13-8 deficit in the second set for the victory and scored the final two points in the third set for the win. Barton also hit .267 for the match in picking up its first home triumph of the season.
Barton remains at home to face Erskine Saturday in a league match beginning at 2:00 p.m., while Emmanuel takes on Mount Olive in Mount Olive, N.C., Saturday morning at 11:00 a.m.
