BRISTOL, TENN. – The Barton College women's tennis team got back into the win column on Saturday as the Bulldogs tallied a 9-0 victory against King University in Conference Carolinas action at the Bristol Racquet Club.
Barton (9-9, 5-2) quickly swept through doubles play before notching all six points in singles play against the Tornado. King (0-13, 0-8) would have a tough start to the match and looked to record a win in singles play as Jennifer Harr battled at the No. 4 position before falling to Barton's Ada Vargas.
Junior Daria Avram and sophomore Marissa Stevenson got things rolling for BC at the No. 1 doubles position as the duo handed Vanessa Francois and Marylin Roustand an 8-0 defeat. Junior Vanessa Sanoja and freshman Ada Vargas upped the Barton advantage to 2-0 by securing an 8-1 win against King's Isla Bell and Jennifer Harr.
The Bulldogs would complete the sweep in doubles competition as freshman Claudia Capellades and junior Whitney Hamilton carded an 8-0 decision against the tandem of Becca Huddleston and Morgan Buchanan for the Tornado.
Sanoja started singles play by giving BC a 4-0 lead in the match with a 6-0, 6-0 win at the No. 2 position for the Bulldogs. Avram would follow with a victory at the top singles spot for the Bulldogs as she defeated Francois 6-2, 6-2.
A win by Stevenson at the No. 3 position would clinch the match for Barton as the Kirk Michael, Isle of Man native tallied a 6-2, 6-0 victory against Roustand. Capellades, Vargas, and Hamilton finished the match for the Bulldogs by recording a win in each of their matches against the Tornado. Capellades would be victorious 8-0, while Hamilton won 8-1 and Vargas 8-6.
Barton heads to Lees-McRae on Sunday for a league matchup with the Bobcats. The Bulldogs then close the regular season with three matches at home beginning on April 11 against Belmont Abbey.
