SUMTER, S.C. – The No. 2 seed Barton College Bulldogs dropped a 5-1 decision against the No. 3 seed Limestone College Saints on Saturday in the semifinals of the Conference Carolinas Women's Tennis Championship at the Palmetto Tennis Center.
Barton (14-10) tallied its lone point of the match at the No. 2 doubles position but would enter singles competition trailing the Saints 2-1. Limestone (10-10) advances to face the No. 1 overall seed Chowan University on Sunday at 9 a.m.
The tandem of Camille Haus and Laura Aholu tallied an 8-5 victory at the No. 1 doubles position for the Saints against Barton's Daria Avram and Marissa Stevenson. Freshman Claudia Capellades and junior Whitney Hamilton dropped an 8-7 (7-4) decision at the No. 3 position for the Bulldogs against Limestone's Alison Walsh and Ruby Kubac.
Junior Vanessa Sanoja and freshman Ada Vargas rallied to give BC a point heading into singles competition with an 8-7 (7-2) victory against Alexandra Dolfi and Felicitas Picinini.
Limestone tallied a 6-1, 6-0 victory at the No. 6 position as Kubac handed Hamilton a loss to give the Saints a 3-1 advantage. Haus bested Avram 6-3, 6-0 at the No. 1 singles spot to push Limestone to within a point of completing the upset against the Bulldogs.
The No. 2 singles position would see Stevenson have her 14-match winning streak come to an end as Aholu tallied a 6-3, 6-0 win to secure the match for the Saints. Three matches would go unfinished with BC leading in all the flights.
