WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. – A winning streak for the Barton College women's lacrosse team was snapped at three matches on Monday after the Lady Bulldogs dropped a 16-9 decision at Keiser University, a nationally-ranked top-10 NAIA program.

Barton (3-2) led briefly at 3-2 following a goal by Kayli Ashenfelter with 22:05 left in the first half, but the unbeaten Seahawks (4-0) tied the match less than a minute later and pulled away to a 5-3 advantage with goals on both sides of the 16-minute mark.

BC closed within one again at 5-4 with 12:27 left in the half on Ashenfelter's second goal of the day but Keiser scored the final four goals of the half to take a comfortable 9-4 cushion into intermission.

After the Seahawks increased their lead to 10-4 less than a minute into the second period, Brooke Lonergan got the Lady Bulldogs back on the board with a goal, but Keiser tallied three straight goals to effectively put the match away at 13-5 with just over 17 minutes left to play.

Keiser, ranked No. 9 among NAIA programs, controlled possession by winning 19 of the 27 draw controls, and was efficient on free position shots, converting 6-of-7 attempts. The Seahawks attempted 33 shots compared to 21 for BC.

Ashenfelter, a freshman from Stewartstown, Pa., posted a team-high four goals for Barton and now has 13 for the season. Lonergan, who came into the contest with two goals, more than doubled her season total by producing three in the match. Jenna Brunclik added a pair of goals for BC, pushing her team-high total to 20, and Angelina Scarpa recorded three assists, increasing her team-high total to 15.

Barton's freshman goalie, Katherine Mattena collected a career-high 13 saves. Mattena was also credited with a team-high seven groundballs. Rebecca Fraser claimed six groundballs and also had three caused turnovers.

The Lady Bulldogs will continue their spring break trip through Florida with a match on Wednesday afternoon at 4 p.m. in Daytona Beach, Fla., against Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University.
