FRANKLIN SPRINGS, GA. – The Barton College women's tennis team recorded its lone point in singles competition as sophomore Marissa Stevenson won her matchup at the No. 3 position for the Bulldogs as Emmanuel College tallied an 8-1 win on Saturday in Conference Carolinas action.
Barton (5-8, 1-1) dropped a trio of close matches in singles competition as the Bulldogs trailed 3-0 after doubles action. Emmanuel (6-6, 2-1) swept through doubles play and rolled its momentum into singles play as the Lions were victorious at both the No. 1 and No. 2 positions.
Claudia Capellades and Whitney Hamilton would drop an 8-1 decision for BC at the No. 3 position against Erskine's Victoria Silva and Pearllan Cipriano to give the Lions a 1-0 lead in the match.
The Lions recorded a pair of 8-2 victories at the No. 1 and No. 2 positions of doubles play as Fantine Botella and Chloe O'Connor defeated Barton top duo of Daria Avram and Stevenson. At the No. 2 spot, Katharina Kiderlen and Maria Raich bested Barton tandem of Vanessa Sanoja and Ada Vargas.
Trailing 3-0 entering singles play, Avram would fall 6-0, 6-2 at the No. 1 spot for the Bulldogs, while Capellades fell in a 6-3, 6-2 matchup. Stevenson would then secure Barton's lone point of the match as she rallied from a 6-4 defeat to win 6-0 and force a third set, where she tallied a 10-2 win.
Sanoja had a tight battle at the No. 2 spot for Barton as she would eventually fall 7-5, 6-3 to Cipriano. Vargas and Hamilton also dropped their singles matches against Emmanuel's Silva and Abi Muesse.
The Bulldogs return home to host Belmont Abbey for a league matchup on Mar. 21 at 2 p.m.
