GREENVILLE, N.C. – The Barton College women's tennis team was blanked, 7-0, by NCAA Division I member East Carolina University on Saturday at the ECU Indoor Tennis Facility.
The Pirates, now 5-2 on the season, captured both No. 2 and No. 3 doubles by 6-1 margins to claim the best 2-of-3 doubles point, then swept singles play in straight sets.
Barton freshman Claudia Capellades won seven games at No. 5 singles, falling 6-3, 6-4 to her East Carolina opponent. Sophomore Marissa Stevenson was locked in a close 6-5 battle in the first set when she was forced to retire from the match.
The Lady Bulldogs, now 1-4 on the year, return to action next Saturday when they host Methodist University in a 10 a.m. contest at the Barton Tennis Complex.
