Barton women's swimming goes 1-1 at VMI tri-meet

LEXINGTON, VA. – Competing in Lexington, Va., the Barton College women's swimming team split a pair of decisions on Saturday against Howard University and the Virginia Military Institute.

Barton tallied a 117-104 victory against the host institution, VMI and dropped a 136-85 decision against Howard. BC recorded a total of two first-place finishes and four second-place finishes against the Bison and Keydets.

The team of junior Annika Jasek-Rysdahl, sophomore Callie Burnette, sophomore Kazia Patzer, and sophomore Kristen Price secured a second-place finish for the Bulldogs with a time of 1:59.24 in the 200-yard medley relay.

Patzer, Price, sophomore Alayna Moore, and freshman Adalaya Nemitz also brought home a second-place finish for BC with a time of 1:43.29 in the 200-yard freestyle relay.

Moore tallied the first of two top finishes on the day for the Bulldogs in the 50-yard freestyle, recording a time of 25.75. The Terre Haute, Ind. native also recorded a second-place finish in the 100-yard freestyle with a time of 56.17.

Sophomore Kleanza Cathers notched the other first-place finish for Barton in the meet, delivering a time of 5:28.92 in the 500-yard freestyle. The Kitimat, Canada native recorded a time of 2:00.95 in the 200-yard freestyle to finish in second while clocking a time of 2:20.79 to finish third in the 200-yard butterfly.

Burnette, a native of Greentown, Ind., notched a pair of third-place finishes for the Bulldogs. She clocked a time of 2:27.72 in the 200-yard backstroke and a mark of 2:40.67 in the 200-yard breaststroke.

Jasek-Rysdahl placed third in the 1000-yard freestyle with a time of 11:45.54, while Nemitz clocked a time of 2:21.99 in the 200-yard individual medley to record a third-place finish.

The Barton women head to Raleigh, N.C. on Oct. 27 for a matchup against William Peace University and Conference Carolinas member, King University. The meet is scheduled to start at 1 p.m. and will be hosted by William Peace.
