RICHMOND, Va. – Barton College's
Kleanza Cathers has been named to the 2022 CSCAA Scholar All-America Women's Swimming First Team. In addition, the Barton women's swimming squad earned Scholar All-American Team honors for the Spring of 2022.
Cathers, a senior from Kitimat, British Columbia, CANADA, became the first female swimmer in program history to qualify for the NCAA Division II National Championships this past March in Greensboro, N.C. Cathers earned spots in the nationals in both the women's 50-yard and 100-yard freestyle events.
Cathers, who earned her undergraduate degree in exercise science and master's degree in kinesiology from Barton, was also the 2021-22 Conference Carolinas Women's Co-Swimmer of the Year. Cathers captured league titles in the women's 50-yard freestyle, women's 100-yard backstroke and the women's 100-yard freestyle and was also part of the women's 200-yard freestyle relay which placed at the league championship for the Bulldogs.
In her collegiate career, Cathers led Barton to the 2018 and 2021 Conference Carolinas Women's Swimming Championships and was named the league's 2018-19 co-women's swimmer of the year.
The College Swimming & Diving Coaches Association of America (CSCAA) named 1,206 swimmers and divers to its Scholar All-American Team for the 2021-22 campaign. The award recognizes students who achieved a grade point average of 3.50 or higher and were invited to compete at their respective national championship.
The organization also selected 731 teams from 441 institutions to the Scholar All-America Team for the Spring of 2022 semester. The teams were selected on the basis of their Spring 2022 grade point averages and represent 17,845 student-athletes.
Founded in 1922, the College Swimming and Diving Coaches Association of America (CSCAA), is the nation's first organization of college coaches. The mission of the CSCAA is to advance the sport of swimming and diving with coaches at the epicenter of leadership, advocacy, and professional development.
