LEXINGTON, VA. – A pair of freshmen helped the Barton College men's swimming team earn a split of Saturday's tri-meet against Howard University and the Virginia Military Institute in Lexington, Va.
Barton tallied a 120-93 victory against Howard and dropped a 128-102 decision against VMI. BC recorded a total of four first-place finishes and five second-place finishes against the Bison and Keydets.
Freshman Jonathan York tallied a pair of first-place finishes for the Bulldogs with a time of 9:59.35 in the 1000-yard freestyle and a time of 1:57.89 in the 200-yard butterfly. York, a native of Midlothian, Va., also recorded a second-place finish in the 500-yard freestyle with a time of 4:55.48.
Freshman Tegan Brown also tallied a pair of first-place finishes for BC on the day, clocking a time of 2:01.68 in the 200-yard individual medley and almost breaking his own record in the 200-yard backstroke with a time of 1:55.80.
The team of Brown, freshman Colton Spence, sophomore Jaksa Gabric, and freshman Alexander Hoscila secured a second-place finish for the Bulldogs with a time of 1:38.55 in the 200-yard medley relay.
Gabric, Hoscila, junior Colin Strickland, and junior Robert Zamorano placed second with a time of 1:29.02 for the Bulldogs in the 200-yard freestyle relay.
The Bulldogs would see Spence, a native of New Hill, N.C., notch a pair of second-place finishes in the 200-yard freestyle with a time of 1:45.73 and the 100-yard freestyle with a mark of 48.64.
Sophomore Jonathan Moss recorded a third-place finish in the 200-yard breaststroke with a time of 2:19.20, while Gabric finished fourth with a time of 22.47 in the 50-yard freestyle.
The Barton men head to Raleigh, N.C. on Oct. 27 for a matchup against William Peace University and Conference Carolinas member, King University. The meet is scheduled to start at 1 p.m. and will be hosted by William Peace.
