WASHINGTON, D.C. – The Barton College men's swimming team opened the 2018-19 season with a 187-75 victory against the Catholic University of America on Friday night in Washington, D.C. BC recorded 12 first-place finishes against the Cardinals.
The Bulldogs saw one program record fall on Friday as freshman Tegan Brown recorded a time of 1:54.45 in the 200-yard backstroke. The Acworth, Ga. native beat the previous mark which was held by sophomore Jaksa Gabric. Brown would also notch a victory in the 100-yard backstroke (53.25) and place second in the 200-yard individual medley (2:02.92).
The team of Gabric, freshman Jonathan York, freshman Alexander Hoscila, and junior Robert Zamorano secured the first victory of the contest for the Bulldogs with a time of 1:39.06 in the 200-yard medley relay.
Gabric, Hoscila, Brown, and freshman Colton Spence placed first with a time of 1:31.11 for the Bulldogs in the 200-yard freestyle relay.
York, a native of Midlothian, Va., won a pair of events for BC with a time of 10:00.27 in the 1000-yard freestyle to go along with a mark of 4:51.14 in the 500-yard freestyle.
The Bulldogs would see another freshman give BC a trio of victories in the contest as Spence, a native of New Hill, N.C., came out on top in the 200-yard freestyle (1:47.16), 100-yard freestyle (49.40), and 100-yard butterfly (55.48).
Gabric tallied a first-place finish in the 100-yard breaststroke (1:00.42), while sophomore Jonathan Moss recorded a win in the 200-yard breaststroke (2:19.83).
Junior Colin Strickland brought home the fastest time in the 50-yard freestyle (22.78), while freshman Hunter Pope finished second in the 200-yard butterfly (2:07.80).
The Barton men head to Lexington, Va. on Saturday for a matchup against Howard University and the Virginia Military Institute. The Contest is scheduled to start at 1 p.m. and will be hosted by VMI.
