WILSON, N.C. – The Barton women's tennis team won its second straight match and ninth overall with a 9-0 shutout of Lees-McRae College on Sunday afternoon at the Barton Tennis Complex.
The Lady Bulldogs gained three early points in doubles play, beginning with an 8-1 win at No. 2 by the tandem of sophomore Vanessa Sanoja and freshman Elle Vietz.
Seniors Lorraine Chon-Qui and Dana Kelly combined for an 8-1 win at No. 3, while sophomore Daria Avram and freshman Marissa Stevenson earned their third straight win with an 8-3 victory in the No. 1 doubles position.
Barton also collected six points in singles play, highlighted by 6-0, 6-0 wins by Chon-Qui, Sanoja and Vietz. Stevenson was a 6-1, 6-1 winner at No. 1, while Kelly was victorious by a score of 6-1, 6-3 at No.4. Sophomore Whitney Hamilton earned her first win of the season with a 6-0, 6-1 triumph at the No. 6 singles spot.
Barton travels to take on rival University of Mount Olive on Tuesday, April 4 in its final league match of the season before hosting N.C. Wesleyan on April 12 in Wilson.
