WILSON, N.C. – In their final regular season game on the 2016-17 calendar, the Barton women's tennis team honored its two-member senior class with a 7-2 win over visiting N.C. Wesleyan College on Monday afternoon at the Barton Tennis Complex.
Seniors Lorraine Chon-Qui and Dana Kelly were honored by the coaching staff and teammates in a pre-game ceremony before combining for an 8-2 doubles win in the No. 2 position.
The No. 1 duo of sophomore Daria Avram and freshman Marissa Stevenson won 8-1 in doubles competition, while the Battling Bishops collected a point with an 8-4 win at No. 3.
In singles play, sophomore Vanessa Sanoja picked up a 6-2, 6-3 win at No. 3 to start things off. Chon-Qui followed with a 6-1, 6-3 win at No.4 before freshman Elle Vietz clinched the match decision with a 6-0, 6-3 victory in the No. 6 position.
Stevenson was a 6-2, 6-0 winner at No. 2 as Kelly gave BC its final point with a 7-6, 6-0 win as the No. 5 singles player. N.C. Wesleyan won the final matchup of the day, a three-set contest in the No. 1 spot.
The Lady Bulldogs conclude the season with a 10-10 overall record, a seven-win improvement from last year's 3-17 mark. BC also posts a 6-5 record in Conference Carolinas play with the postseason tournament scheduled for the weekend of April 21-23 in Sumter, S.C. at The Palmetto Tennis Center.
