Barton's Avram earns women's tennis player of the week nod

HIGH POINT, N.C. – Barton women's tennis player Daria Avram has been selected as the Conference Carolinas Women's Tennis Player of the Week for Week Three of the season as announced on Tuesday.

The award is the first for Avram in her two-year career as a Bulldog and the first for a Barton women's tennis player since former player Alicia Lasry received the award during the 2013 season.

Avram, a resident of Buzau, Romania, led Barton to a 7-2 victory over Chowan University which entered the match ranked No. 6 in the Atlantic Region standings.

The sophomore began the day with an 8-1 win in doubles play with No. 1 doubles partner Marissa Stevenson. Avram then earned another point for Barton with a 6-3, 7-5 victory in the No. 1 singles matchup against the Atlantic Region's 20th ranked singles player in Polina Novachuk.

Barton is now 2-2 on the young season while Avram has posted a 3-1 singles record as well as two wins in doubles play.

The Lady Bulldogs are in action again today as they travels to Raleigh, N.C. for a 2 p.m. matchup with Meredith College at the Meredith Tennis Complex.
