WILSON, N.C. – In the team's 2017 home opener, the Barton College women's tennis program defeated visiting Methodist University 8-1 on Sunday afternoon at the Barton Tennis Complex.
Barton claimed an early lead after winning all three doubles matchups to begin the afternoon.
The No. 1 singles team of Daria Avram and Marissa Stevenson and the No. 2 doubles team of Vanessa Sanoja and Elle Vieta each won 8-4. BC's No. 3 doubles tandem of Lorraine Chon-Qui and Dana Kelly earned an 8-2 victory of their own.
In singles play, Sanoja earned a 6-1, 6-0 victory in the No. 3 position, while Chon-Qui sealed the match victory for Barton with a 6-1, 6-2 win at No. 5.
Avram and Stevenson each won their respective singles matchups in two sets, while Dana Kelly won her No. 6 contest in three sets by a score of 6-1, 1-6, 6-2. Methodist's Sam Munze tallied the only point for her team with a win as the No.4 singles player.
Barton remains at home as the team hosts Chowan University on February 14 in Wilson at 3 p.m.
