BELMONT, N.C. – In its first road match as a program, the Barton College women's lacrosse team suffered a 23-0 shutout at the hands of Belmont Abbey College on Saturday at Alumni Field.

The Crusaders (1-0), the third-place team in Conference Carolinas last season, scored five times in the first five minutes of the match in rolling to the win in their season-opener.

Belmont Abbey held Barton (0-2) without a shot while attempting 34. BC goalie Tiffany Fowler recorded six saves in the loss.

Rebecca Fraser collected a pair of groundballs and forced one turnover for the Lady Bulldogs, while Alyssa Torres claimed one groundball and caused the Crusaders to make a pair of turnovers.

Barton will return home for its next match on Sunday, Feb. 19, but the assignment will be no easier. The Lady Bulldogs will host nationally-ranked Limestone College, which has won every league title since the conference began sponsoring the sport in 2005. The match is slated for a 4 p.m. start at the Barton Outdoor Athletics Complex.
