CHARLOTTE, N.C. – The Barton College men's soccer team suffered a non-conference loss to Queens University of Charlotte on Saturday night, losing 3-1 to the Royals on the road.

Junior keeper Jens Madsen Hordvik had a season-high seven saves in the loss, but Queens outshot Barton 23-6 in the match and put 10 shots on goal.

The Royals scored first in the 22nd minute to carry a 1-0 lead into halftime after a handball in the box gave Queens a penalty kick.

However, senior Rodrigo Neves evened the match at 1-1 with his second goal of the season on an assist from sophomore Tolly Beatson who sent a corner kick into the box. With his back facing the goal, Neves was able to use his left foot to score the no-look goal in the 59th minute of play.

Queens retook the lead with a goal from Liam Doyle in the 67th minute, scoring from 30 yards out after possessing a throw in and settling the ball. The Royals third and final goal came in the 79th minute on a second penalty kick, this time following a Barton fould in the box, to put the game out of reach for Barton.

The Bulldogs continue non-conference play on Wednesday, Sept. 14 with a road contest against UNC Pembroke at 7:30 p.m.
