BANNER ELK, N.C. – For the first time in the program's five-year history, the Barton College men's volleyball team reached the 20-win mark in the regular season with a 3-0 (25-16, 25-13, 25-18) victory over Lees-McRae on Saturday afternoon.
Barton (20-5, 14-3 CC) hit .338 in the match, while Lees-McRae (1-24, 0-17 CC) had 22 kills and 22 attack errors for a .000 hitting percentage as team.
The first set of play was a back-and-forth affair early before Barton took advantage of a Lees-McRae service error and four consecutive attack errors to build a 17-10 lead. Another Bobcats service error ended the set with Barton ahead by nine points.
Once again the two sides played close in the early going as a 6-2 run built the Bulldog lead to 20-12. Barton scored five of the set's final six points as another LMC service error ended the frame.
Barton and Lees-McRae battled throughout the final set of play, tying the score seven different times as a kill from senior Pierre Tang-Taye ended the match to give BC the three-set sweep.
Tang-Taye led all players with 14 kills and a .524 hitting percentage, while freshman Aleksa Brkovic totaled 28 assists and six digs.
The Bulldogs end the regular season on Tuesday, April 12 against Pfeiffer University with at least a share of the Conference Carolinas regular season title on the line. The match in Wilson Gymnasium is scheduled for a 7 p.m. start time.
