WILSON, N.C. – The Barton College women's tennis team won its first Conference Carolinas match of the season with a 5-4 victory over Southern Wesleyan University on Friday afternoon at the Barton Tennis Complex.
The Lady Bulldogs were ahead 2-1 after doubles play with the Warriors giving up a point by default at No. 3 and the duo of Smiljana Kljajic and Vanessa Sanoja claiming an 8-1 win at No. 1.
Southern Wesleyan once again gave up a point by default in the No. 6 singles position as Barton needed just one point to decide the match after Kljajic won 6-1, 6-2 at No. 1 singles.
The Warriors won at both No. 5 and No. 4 singles play before junior Dana Kelly gave BC the match with a 6-2, 7-6 (8-6) win at No. 3 singles. SWU won at No. 2 singles in three-sets with the match already decided.
BC hosts North Greenville University tomorrow at 1 p.m. in its final regular season match.
