BRISTOL, TENN. – The Barton College men's volleyball team needed five sets to secure a 3-2 (25-23, 23-25, 17-25, 25-22, 15-13) win over league foe King University on Friday night.
Barton improved its record to 19-5 overall with a 13-3 mark in Conference Carolinas play, while King fell to 7-23 with a 4-13 league record.
Barton hit .389 in the opening set to earn a two-point win before falling 25-23 in the second set as King tied the match at 1-1.
King went ahead in the match with a 25-17 victory in the third set before the Bulldogs responded with a 25-22 win in the fourth set to force a fifth and final set of play.
The Bulldogs went ahead early in the final set, leading 4-1 after back-to-back attack errors by King. Barton held the lead, using a Tornado service error to seal the match victory.
Senior Pierre Tang-Taye led BC with 21 kills and 12 digs, while freshman Vasilis Mandilaris followed with 14 kills and nine digs of his own.
Freshman Nick Leary totaled 11 kills in the middle as fellow first-year player Aleksa Brkovic registered a double-double with 45 assists and 17 digs. Libero Kekaulike Alameda led all players with 16 digs in the match.
Barton travels to Banner Elk, N.C. for a match with Lees-McRae College beginning at 2 p.m.
