DUE WEST, S.C. – The Barton College men's volleyball team fell behind early and was unable to recover in a 3-0 (25-20, 25-19, 25-18) loss to No. 1 seed Erskine College in the Conference Carolinas Tournament Championship in Belk Arena.
As a team, the Flying Fleet hit .377 compared to a .162 hitting mark for the Bulldogs. BC committed 15 attack errors and 12 service errors in the loss.
Freshman Vasilis Mandilaris had nine kills for Barton, while senior Pierre Tang-Taye and freshman Aleksa Brkovic each had eight kills. Junior Federico Pagliara registered 28 assists and a team-high six digs.
Barton and Erskine played to three ties in the first set of the match before the Fleet used an 8-3 run to build a five-point lead. BC scored four of the final six points in the set but a service error gave Erskine the victory.
Erskine hit .600 as a team in the second set, scoring six of the final seven points, including three kills and three service aces by the conference Offensive Player of the Year Mike Michelau. The Bulldogs and Flying Fleet kept the third set close before Erskine pulled away for a seven-point win to seal the match.
Pagliara and Brkovic were both honored following the match as members of the All-Tournament Team as Barton ended the 2015-16 season with a 22-7 overall record, including a 14-4 league mark which are both bench marks for the program in its five-year history.
