WILSON, N.C. – The Barton College men's volleyball team earned its fourth consecutive straight-set victory with a 3-0 (25-19, 25-18. 25-17) win over Conference Carolinas member North Greenville University on Saturday afternoon in Wilson Gymnasium.
North Greenville (10-12, 6-9 CC) began the first set with back-to-back points before a 7-0 run put Barton (17-4, 11-2 CC) ahead 14-6 midway through following consecutive kills from freshman Nick Leary. NGU scored four of the set's final six points but could not overcome the large deficit.
The second set of play was tightly contested early on as both sides played to eight total ties on the scoreboard. However, four straight points for BC put the home team ahead by six, leading to a seven-point set win on a Leary service ace.
Barton scored four points in a row to begin the third set and led 10-5 early on after a kill from junior Michael Perez. A kill from freshman Justice Lord and back-to-back North Greenville service errors ended the set and the match with Barton on top.
Freshman Aleksa Brkovic led all players with 11 kills and a .417 hitting percentage while recording two of Barton's nine total service aces. Fellow freshman Vasilis Mandilaris had seven kills of his own, while junior Federico Pagliara had a match-high 31 assists in the win.
Barton travels to Mount Olive, N.C. for match with rival Mount Olive on Tuesday, April 5 at 7 p.m. in Kornegay Arena.
