WILSON, N.C. – The Barton College men's volleyball team made quick work of Emmanuel College with a 3-0 (25-7, 25-19, 25-8) sweep on Friday night in a match that last just over an hour in Wilson Gymnasium.
Barton improved to 17-4 overall and 11-2 in Conference Carolinas play after hitting .449 as a team with just five errors. Emmanuel committed 21 attack errors leading to a -0.60 hitting percentage while falling to 9-12 on the season wtiha 6-11 mark in the league.
The Bulldogs opened the match on a tear, scoring seven of the set's first eight points to lead early. BC ended the set on an 8-0 run, securing the win with three consecutive service aces from freshman Aleksa Brkovic.
Barton and Emmanuel played to four ties early on in the second set before BC pulled out to an 18-12 lead following a 4-0 run. A service error by the Lions ended the set to put the Bulldogs ahead 2-0 in the match.
BC once again cruised to victory in the third set, scoring the final five points of the set and securing the match win with a service ace from freshman Christian Reyes.
Senior Pierre Tang-Taye led all players with 15 kills and a .583 hitting percentage, while freshman Vasilis Mandilaris followed with nine kills and a .500 hitting mark of his own. Junior Federico Pagliara finished with a seven digs to go along with a match-high 28 assists, while freshman Kekaulike Alameda led the pack with 11 digs on defense.
Barton hosts North Greenville University tomorrow in Wilson Gym in a match scheduled for a 2 p.m. start time.
