Women's tennis suffers fourth straight defeat with 5-4 loss to Bluefield College

WILSON, N.C. – The Barton College women's tennis team fell for the fourth consecutive match, losing 5-4 to Bluefield College on Monday afternoon.

Barton earned two points in doubles play, the first coming by default due to Bluefield's inability to field a No. 3 team. The pairing of Smiljana Kljajic and Vanessa Sanoja won for the second straight day, defeating Gema Mendoza/Paloma Sanchez 8-6 in the No. 1 spot. Bluefield earned a point with an 8-6 win at No. 2 doubles.

The Lady Bulldogs again gained a point by default in singles play as the Rams could not produce a No. 6 matchup. Junior Dana Kelly won her No. 3 singles matchup 6-0, 6-2, but Bluefield won the rest of the singles matches for the victory. Kljajic and Sanoja each played to three-sets at No. 1 and No. 2 respectively in the loss.

Barton returns to Conference Carolinas play tomorrow when it hosts Limestone College at 2 p.m. at the Barton Tennis Complex.
