WILSON, N.C. – After a week away from competition, the Barton College women's tennis team defeated visiting N.C. Wesleyan 6-3 to claim its second victory of the season on Thursday.
Barton's No. 1 doubles tandem of Smiljana Kljajic and Vanessa Sanoja earned an 8-5 win for their fifth victory of the season, while Dana Kelly and Rebecca Lamm won 8-4 at No.3 doubles. N.C. Wesleyan's ana Diaz and Florencia Sorrentino earned a win at No. 2 as BC was ahead 2-1 moving to singles play.
N.C. Wesleyan tied the match with a win at No. 5 singles before the Lady Bulldogs' took the lead with Sanoja's 6-2, 6-0 win at No. 2 singles. The match was once again tied with a 7-5, 6-2 win by the Battling Bishops at No.1 until freshman Whitney Hamilton earned a 7-5, 6-2 win at No. 4.
The Lady Bulldogs' secured the match win with a 6-3, 6-2 win at No. 3 singles by junior Dana Kelly. Freshman Rebecca Lamm gave Barton its final point with a 4-6, 6-3, 1-0 (10-3) third-set super tiebreaker win at No. 6 singles.
Barton hosts Conference Carolinas opponent Converse College on Saturday, March 19 at 10 a.m. in the team's next match.
