DUE WEST, S.C. – The Barton College women's tennis team suffered its third straight shutout in a 9-0 loss to Erskine College on Friday afternoon in the team's Conference Carolinas opener.
In doubles competition, the duo of senior Smiljana Kljajic and freshman Vanessa Sanoja battled hard but fell 8-6 to Erskine's Paola Gullino and Sarah McDonaldin the No. 1 spot. The Flying Fleet earned two more victories at No. 2 and No.3 double for an early 3-0 lead.
Kljajic was defeated 6-3, 6-3 by Miranda Guthrie in the No. 1 singles matchup as Sanoja fell 7-5, 6-3 to Gullino at No. 2. Erskine won the remaining four singles matches in straight sets for the 9-0 win.
Barton travels to Franklin Springs, Ga. tomorrow for an 11 a.m. match against Emmanuel College.
