WILSON, N.C. – The Barton College men's soccer team was unable to overcome the precision of defending national champion and nationally ranked No. 20 Pfeiffer University in a 5-0 loss on Wednesday night at the Barton Outdoor Athletics Complex.
The Falcons improved to 10-2 overall and a perfect 6-0 in Conference Carolinas play with the win, while the Bulldogs fell to 3-8-1 with a 1-4-1 mark in the league.
Senior Nathan Regis, the reigning NSCAA National Player of the Year, got Pfeiffer on the board first with a goal in the 37th minute of the opening half. After being taken down in the box, Regis buried a penalty shot into the bottom left corner for his 11th goal of the year.
Following intermission, the Falcon offense erupted for four goals on 18 shots to seal the victory. Pfeiffer controlled the match from start to finish, totaling 33 shots compared to just three for Barton. Bulldog keeper Jens Madsen Hordvik set a career-high with 15 saves in the loss.
Falcon senior Santi Moar scored twice to open the second half of play, netting an unassisted goal in the 48th minute and another goal in the 55th minute on an assist from fellow senior Martim Galvao. Junior Jaime Siaj buried a bouncing free ball into the back of the net in the 62nd minute, as Regis concluded the scoring frenzy with his second goal of the match on a header finished off of a cross from Siaj in the 77th minute of action.
