FRANKLIN SPRINGS, Ga. – The Barton College men's volleyball team won its third straight match and second Conference Carolinas contest with a 3-2 (20-25, 25-18, 25-19, 23-25, 15-10) win over Emmanuel College (Ga.) on Sunday afternoon.
Barton improved to 4-2 overall and evened its league record at 2-2 with the five-set win, while Emmanuel fell to 2-4 overall and in conference play.
The Bulldogs hit .324 as a team and matched a season-high with 10 total blocks. BC also totaled a season-high 50 digs in holding the Lions to a .282 hitting percentage.
Emmanuel went ahead early with a 25-20 victory in the first set of action as Barton struggled to hit just .143 as a team in the frame. However, BC hit .538 in the second set and .409 in the third to take a 2-1 match lead.
The Lions evened the match score at 2-2 with a .433 hitting performance in the fourth set before the Bulldogs' defense held Emmanuel to just four kills and a .095 hitting percentage in the fifth and final set to earn a 15-10 victory. Barton hit .413 with 13 kills and just three errors in the final frame.
Senior Pierre Tang-Taye registered a season-high 21 kills in the match, turning in a .444 hitting percentage with six digs to lead BC.
Freshman Vasilis Mandilaris totaled 16 kills and 12 digs for his first career double-double, while fellow freshman Aleksa Brkovic finished with 13 kills and nine digs of his own. Junior Federico Pagliara totaled 59 assists in match and now leads Conference Carolinas in assists per set with an 11.77 mark.
Barton returns home to host Belmont Abbey College on Friday, February 5 in a match scheduled to begin at 7 p.m. in Wilson Gymnasium.
