TIGERVILLE, S.C. – First-year players Aleksa Brkovic and Vasilis Mandilaris each hit .750 as the Barton men's volleyball team defeated North Greenville University 3-0 (25-22, 25-16, 25-21) on Saturday afternoon in Hayes Gymnasium.
Barton (3-2, 1-2) picked up its first Conference Carolinas win by hitting .500 as a team and committing just seven errors. North Greenville (3-2, 3-2) hit .210 as a unit in the defeat.
The Bulldogs earned a three-point victory in the first set, followed by a 25-16 win in the second to take a 2-0 match lead. BC controlled the second set from start to finish. The two sides traded points for much of the third and final set before Barton was able to pull away late and earn the win on a kill from Brkovic.
Brkovic, a native of Serbia, had his best game in Royal Blue and White as he totaled 13 kills on 16 attempts with just one error to go along with four service aces and six digs. Mandilaris followed with 12 kills of his own without committing an attacking error in the match. Junior setter Federico Pagliara returned from injury to lead the way with 41 assists in the three-set win.
Barton travels to Franklin Springs, Ga. for another conference tilt with the Lions of Emmanuel College at 2 p.m. on Sunday.
