MISENHEIMER, N.C. – The Barton College men's soccer team suffered a 3-1 loss to No. 11 ranked Pfeiffer University on Wednesday evening at NE Lefko Field.
The Falcons and Bulldogs played close for much of the first half until Pfeiffer's Nathan Regis scored in the 36th minute to give the home team a 1-0 lead heading into intermission.
Following a few halftime adjustments, Barton was able to tie the game at 1-1 in the 50th minute of play. Junior Alex David played a pass through the Pfeiffer defense to fellow junior Rodrigo Neves who was pushed in the back in the box, leading to a penalty shot. Neves buried the kick past the keeper for his second goal of the season.
However, Regis was able to put his team ahead 2-1 in the 70th minute with his second goal of the game. Barton was able to get a few chances to even the score late before reigning Conference Carolinas Player of the Week Jaime Siaj put the game away with a goal in the 87th minute to give the Falcons the 3-1 victory at home.
Pfeiffer improved to 5-0 on the season and 1-0 in the conference, while Barton fell to 1-4 overall and 0-2 in league play. The Falcons collected 22 shots in the game compared to 11 by the Bulldogs as sophomore keeper Jens Madsen Hordvik matched his season-high with six saves.
Barton welcomes South Atlantic Conference member Tusculum College to Wilson on Saturday, Sept. 19 as part of the college's Family Weekend. The Bulldogs and Pioneers are scheduled to take the field at 7 p.m. at the Barton Outdoor Athletics Complex.
