WILSON, N.C. – The Barton College women's golf team finished in third place in the Barton Intercollegiate after recording the second-best round of the day on Tuesday at Wilson Country Club.
The Lady Bulldogs were 21 shots better than they had been in round one on Monday, jumping one spot in the seven-team standings and coming within one shot of runner-up Lenoir-Rhyne University. Barton's fellow Conference Carolinas member Erskine College ran away with the team title, winning by 53 shots with a two-day total of 655.
The Fleet had the top three individuals in the tournament. Krysta Schaus claimed medalist honors with a two-day total of 160 (81-79), one shot better than Macarena Basgoiti (82-79). Rachel Moore was another two shots back in third at 163 (81-82).
Barton carded a two-day team total of 709. After struggling to a 365 on Monday, the Lady Bulldogs bounced back with a 344 in the final round. Seniors Brittney Zine, Sarah Murray and Maria Tirado all fired second-round 83s, and Abby Glover provided the fourth counting score of 95, one shot better than teammate Tessa Davis.
Zine's two-day total of 171 (88-83) tied for sixth in the 40-player field. Murray finished eighth with her 173 (90-83) and Tirado was ninth at 174 (91-83). Davis tied for 23rd and Glover placed 32nd. Junior Lauren Larison, playing as an individual, came in 17th overall after a two-day total of 184 (96-88).
Finishing fourth behind Barton was Franklin Pierce University with a total of 719. Southern Wesleyan University was fifth (733), followed by University of Charleston (W.V.) (762) and Southern New Hampshire University (832).
The Lady Bulldogs will return to action in two weeks at the Cherokee Valley Invitational, which will be hosted by North Greenville University at the Cherokee Valley Golf Club in Travelers Rest, S.C.
