Men's volleyball extends winning streak to three

WILSON, N.C. – The Barton College men's volleyball team extended its winning streak to three games over the weekend with Conference Carolinas road victories over Emmanuel College Friday night and North Greenville University Saturday afternoon.

With the wins, the Bulldogs evened their league mark to 6-6 and improved to 7-9 overall.

Barton defeated Emmanuel (1-9, 1-9) in four sets in Franklin Springs, Ga., Friday night, 25-18, 25-20, 12-25, 25-17. The Bulldogs hit .348 in the first frame, and overcame a negative .040 third set with a .478 final frame.  

Junior Pierre Tang-Taye produced 12 kills for the Bulldogs, with sophomore Chad Stanback Jr. adding 11. Freshman Charles Hyde contributed career-highs of nine kills and six blocks in the victory. The Bulldogs also received a match-high 14 digs from senior Mike McMahon and 33 assists from sophomore Federico Pagliara.

The Lions were paced by Luke Fountain and Alex Barbosa, who each had 11 kills. Stephen Diaz delivered 10 digs.

Barton downed North Greenville on Saturday afternoon in Tigerville, S.C., in straight sets (25-22, 25-22, 25-20), one night after the Crusaders (7-9, 2-6) upset University of Mount Olive in a five-set battle.

Tang-Taye again led the Royal Blue and White, this time collecting 14 kills. Stanback added seven kills and senior Brennan O'Connor chipped in six. McMahon again produced 14 digs, and Pagliara pushed up 32 assists.

The Crusaders were led by Connor Rhine and Matthew McManaway, who each had nine kills. Dustin King collected 10 digs.

Barton hit .243 in the contest while limiting NGU to a .105 percentage. The Bulldogs topped out at .346 in the second set.

The victories gave the Bulldogs season sweeps of both Emmanuel and North Greenville.

BC will attempt to push its winning streak to four in a row when it visits Belmont Abbey College for a 7 p.m. league contest on Tuesday.
