MURFREESBORO, N.C.-A trio of Lady Bulldogs did not lose a game as the Barton College women's tennis team rolled to its first win of 2011 defeating host Chowan University 9-0 Tuesday afternoon.
Junior Lindsay Toth (Sewickley, Pa.) and the freshman duo of Mika Dean (Auckland, New Zealand) and Carol Fischer (Socorro, Brazil) all recorded 6-0, 6-0 wins as Barton moved to 1-1 on the early season.
Deane won her first collegiate dual match from the top position in the lineup while Fischer improves to 2-0 on her rookie season from the No. 5 slot. Toth picked up her sweep at No. 3 singles.
All six Lady Bulldogs won in straight sets as sophomore No. 2 Lindsey Frederick (Goldsboro, N.C.) won 6-0, 6-1; senior No. 4 Jaime Galasso (Winston-Salem, N.C.) netted a 6-1, 6-1 victory; and sophomore No. 6 Francesca Del Pozo (Lima, Peru) got her first win representing the Royal Blue and White by a final score of 6-1, 6-2.
Barton looked impressive in doubles, starting with the No. 1 tandem of Deane and Toth winning 8-3. Frederick and Fischer teamed up to win the middle draw 8-1 and the duo of Galassco and Del Pozo completed the doubles sweep 8-2.
"Certainly anytime you win it is a good thing," said Barton third year head coach Tom Schrecengost. "I'm not sure how much we can take away from these wins in terms of our progress as Chowan is currently re-building so there is a sizable gap in talent between us. But we have another match under our belts as we prepare for the upcoming conference season."
Barton (1-1) will be tested at NCAA Division I East Carolina University on Saturday at 3 p.m.
