WILSON, N.C. – Barton College has named
Christy Johnson Assistant Director of Athletics for Compliance and Administration.
Johnson comes to Barton after working for the past eight years at Saint Andrews University in Laurinburg, N.C. At SAU, Johnson served as Associate Director of Admissions since May of 2017 and worked in the Athletics Department as Senior Woman Leader for the past two years, the highest-ranking female athletic administrator under the Athletic Director.
In Athletics at Saint Andrews, Johnson oversaw compliance training and athlete retention strategies and worked cross-functionally with the University President and various campus departments. Johnson also led with the recruitment, hiring and onboarding of new coaches. Johnson is a member of the NAIA Senior Woman Leader Association and attended the NAIA Governance Leadership Academy as well.

She is an experienced administrator with a varied background who will bring significant value to Barton Athletics. As a former athlete and coach, Christy will be able to serve our student-athletes and staff in an authentic and effective manner."
Johnson also served as Head Softball Coach and Director of Operations for Converse (2015-17) and her first stint at St. Andrews University included time as an Associate Head Softball Coach (2013-15) and Assistant Coach (2012-13).
Johnson also made coaching stops at West Texas A&M University (2010-12) and Florida Tech (2009-10) in Melbourne, Fla.
Johnson earned her bachelor's degree in sociology from Charleston Southern University in 2008 and Master of Arts in Criminal Justice from West Texas A&M in 2012. Johnson played collegiate softball for two years at Aiken Technical College (2005-06), where she received two associate degrees, and two seasons at Charleston Southern.
