GREENVILLE, S.C. – Barton College's
Harrison Wierse has been named the 2024 Conference Carolinas Men's Golfer of the Year, league officials announced earlier today.
Wierse, a senior from Wilmington, N.C., is the fifth Bulldogs' golfer to earn the yearly honor and the first since
Bryson Boyette in 2021. Wierse leads the conference with a 71.0-stroke average and was individual medalist last week at the 2024 Conference Carolinas Championship.
Joining Wierse on the all-league first team was sophomore
Ryan Jahr (Ocean Isle Beach, N.C.) for the Bulldogs. Barton junior
Daniel Adkins (Holly Springs, N.C.) and senior
Kris Jackson (Greenville, N.C) were named to the all-conference second team while junior
Mitchell Soma (New Albany, Ohio) picked up third-team all-league laurels.
Adkins and Soma are two-time all-conference selections (2023 and 2024) while Jackson was a 2022 All-Conference Carolinas Third-Team honoree. Jackson and Jahr tied for first as well at the league championship but lost in a playoff to Wierse while Adkins finished fifth to earn conference all-tournament honors.
Wierse captured the Barton Fall Intercollegiate Championship (Oct. 16-17 in Snow Hill, N.C.) while Jahr won The Trojan (April 7-8 in Goldsboro, N.C.) this year.
Barton, ranked No. 15 in NCAA Division II, earned the automatic qualifying bid to the NCAA Division II South/Southeast Regionals after winning the 2024 Conference Carolinas Championship – its second straight league title – last week at the Cutter Creek Golf Club in Snow Hill, N.C.
In addition,
Derek Hamm has been named the Conference Carolinas Coach of the Year for the fourth straight season.
