MOUNT OLIVE, N.C. – The Barton men's and women's outdoor track and field teams had a pair of first-place finishes at the Trojan Relays which took place Saturday at the Ray McDonald, Sr., Sports Complex on the campus of the University of Mount Olive.
Barton senior
Deshawn Owens (Pikeville, N.C.) won the men's 1,500-meter run with a time of 4:01.90 while senior
Quante Downey (Rocky Mount, N.C.) took first place in the men's pole vault (Rocky Mount, N.C.).
In addition, junior
Guy Crane (Goldsboro, N.C.) ran the men's 3,000-meter steeplechase in 10:49.63 – good for fourth place overall – while Owens also took fifth in the men's 800-meter run with a time of 1:58.71 for the Bulldogs.
Barton sophomore
Justin Copper (High Point, N.C.) and junior
Jacquez Durham (Clayton, N.C.) also finished fourth in the men's 400-meter dash (49.00) and seventh in the men's 200-meter dash (21.97), respectively. Rounding out the top-ten competitors for the Bulldogs was junior
Braxton Fontaine (Rumford, R.I.): 10th in the men's long jump (21'4").
On the women's side, the Bulldogs were led by freshman
Cassandra Schrubb (Piqua, Ohio), who finished sixth in the 5,000-meter run (20:01.45) and tenth in the 1,500-meter run (5:24.51).
In addition, Barton senior
Telina Bunch (Hampton, Va.) placed ninth in the women's 400-meter hurdles (1:08.71) and junior
Anna Fretwell (Sneads Ferry, N.C.) took eighth in the women's 5,000-meter run with a time of 20:40.46.
The Barton outdoor track and field teams next compete at the 2023 Conference Carolinas Championships on Friday, April 28, and Saturday, April 29, at Doug Shaw Memorial Stadium in Myrtle Beach, S.C.
