GREENVILLE, S.C. – Barton College's
Deshawn Owens has been named the Conference Carolinas Men's Indoor Track Athlete of the Week, league officials announced earlier today.
Owens, a senior from Pikeville, N.C., had a pair of top-five finishes this past Saturday at the Mondo College Invitational at the JDL Fast Track in Winston-Salem, N.C.
Owens took fifth overall in the men's 3,000-meter run after breaking his own school record with a time of 8:50.59 while taking third overall in the men's 800-meter run (2:01.05). Owens' 3,000-meter run time ranks seventh overall in the Southeast Region so far this season while his 800-meter time is fourth-best in the conference.
Mount Olive's Alex Smith-Fort'e has been named the Conference Carolinas Men's Indoor Track Field Athlete of the Week.
The Barton College Men's and Women's Indoor Track and Field Teams will next compete at the Carolina Challenge on the campus of the University of South Carolina this Friday, February 20, and Saturday, February 21, in Columbia, S.C.
