KINGSPORT, Tenn. – The Barton men's and women's swimming teams both finished in second place at the 2022 Conference Carolinas Championships, which concluded Saturday at the Kingsport Aquatic Center.
On the women's side, the Bulldogs were edged out by Emmanuel, 670-664. In the men's competition, Barton finished with 495.5 points while Emmanuel won the title with 911 points.
On the final day of competition today, the Bulldogs took home three individual titles. Barton senior
Kleanza Cathers (Kitimat, British Columbia, CANADA) won the women's 100-yard freestyle (51.82), her third first-place finish of the meet. For her efforts, Cathers was named the 2022 Conference Carolins Women's Co-Swimmer of the Year, the second time she has earned the honor in her collegiate career.

David Szlobodnyik (Dunaujvaros, HUNGARY) won the men's 200-yard butterfly (1:50.35) while freshman
Georgi Tsurev (Blagoevgrad, BULGARIA) placed first in the men's 200-yard backstroke with a time of 1:47.72.
Both the men's and women's 400-yard freestyle relays for the Bulldogs placed second overall with times of 3:04.93 and 3:30.49, respectively.

Roman Martinez (Willow Spring, N.C.) and
Ethan Maddrey (Sims, N.C.) while the women's team featured Cathers, senior
Adalaya Nemitz (Waxhaw, N.C.), freshman
Allie Ingram (Okatie, S.C.) and sophomore
Riley Byers (Cumming, Ga.).

Kevin Woodhull-Smith was named the 2022 Conference Carolinas Men's and Women's Swimming Coach of the Year.
