GREENVILLE, N.C. – The Barton swimming teams competed Saturday afternoon at East Carolina University's Quad Meet at Minges Natatorium.
On the men's side, the Bulldogs fell to Lynchburg by a 180-70 score while the Barton women's squad came up short to East Carolina (228-39) and Lynchburg (195-42).
The Bulldogs' men's team – featuring the quartet of seniors
Ethan Koekemoer (Durban, SOUTH AFRICA) and
Dominic Edl (Bluffton, S.C.),
Natan Alexandre (Sao Paulo, BRAZIL) and
Ethan Robinson (Dacula, Ga.) – won the men's 400-yard medley relay with a time of 3:38.03. The foursome also took runner-up in the men's 200-yard freestyle relay (1:29.72).
Alexandre and Edl finished first and second with times of 59.29 and 1:00.90, respectively, in the men's 100-yard breaststroke while Robinson won the men's 100-yard freestyle (48.62). Alexandre won his second individual race thanks to his first-place performance in the 200-yard breaststroke (2:16.02).
Two other second-place finishes included Robinson in the men's 200-yard freestyle (1:47.65) and Koekemoer in the men's 100-yard backstroke (55.78) for the Bulldogs.
On the women's side, Barton junior
Avril Villalobos (Raleigh, N.C.) took fourth in the 200-yard breaststroke (2:39.79) and fifth in the 100-yard butterfly (1:07.79) and 100-yard breaststroke (1:12.66) events.
Barton men's and women's swimming next hosts Chowan in its home opener on Saturday, November 8, at Wilson YMCA in Wilson.
