WINGATE, N.C. – The Barton Football Team (2-5, 1-4) will look to snap a four-game losing streak on Saturday when the the visitors travel to Wingate, N.C., to take on Wingate (6-1, 4-1). The kickoff is set for 6:00 p.m., at Irwin Belk Stadium.
Barton suffered a 34-0 loss to No. 13 Lenoir-Rhyne last Saturday at home. The Bears used good balance on offense – 247 yards passing and 260 yards rushing – to remain unbeaten in league play and run their winning streak to four games.
Barton is led this season by sophomore running back
Jordan Terrell (Ramseur, N.C.), who is third in the conference in rushing yards (118.6 per game) to go along with five touchdowns. Sophomore wideout
Kameron Johnson (Rocky Mount, N.C.) has also caught five scores to go along with 33 catches for 468 yards to lead the Bulldogs' receiving corps. On defense, Barton sophomore
Shane Perry (Holly Springs, N.C.) had a league-leading 67 tackles.
Wingate has won three straight games after last Saturday's 28-21 win in overtime over Limestone in Gaffney, S.C. Wingate's Matt Park, Jr. (Columbia, S.C.) scored on a two-yard run in the extra frame as the Bulldogs rallied from a 21-0 deficit in the fourth quarter to pull it out and stay in the hunt for the Piedmont Division crown.
Wingate's Shaw Crocker (Greenville, S.C.) passed for 343 yards and two touchdowns in the victory. Crocker has 1,282 yards through the air and 10 scores while the Bulldogs' defense is stout, allowing just 9.3 points and 202.7 yards per contest. Both a league-bests and Wingate's scoring defense ranks second in the nation.
Barton defeated Wingate by a 26-20 score in overtime last season on October 16, 2021, at home in what proved to be one of the biggest victories in school history. Wingate was ranked No. 8 at the time of the game.

Chip Hester while Wingate is led by 22-year mentor Joe Reich. Barton is an Associate Member of the South Atlantic Conference in 2022 and 2023.
