KINGSPORT, Tenn. – The Barton men's and women's swimming teams opened the 2021-22 season this past weekend at King (Tenn.) University Invitational which concluded Saturday at the Kingsport Aquatic Center.
The women's squad took fourth place for the Bulldogs with 364 points while Carson-Newman won the meet with a total of 1,264 points. On the men's side, Barton (213 points) took fifth place overall while the Eagles stood at the top of the leaderboard in the end with 1,366.5 points.
On the women's side, the Bulldogs were led by junior
Moira Euker (Fredericksburg, Va.). Euker finished third in the 100-yard backstroke (1:00.39) and fifth in the 200-yard backstroke (2:12.71).
Barton senior
Kleanza Cathers (Kitimat, British Columbia, CANADA) took fourth place in the women's 100-yard backstroke with a time of 1:00.39 and was part of the women's 200-yard freestyle relay (1:41.84) that took fourth place for the Bulldogs. The quartet included Cathers, senior

Megan Schueller (La Plata, Md.) and freshman
Allie Ingram (Okatie, S.C.).
Finally, sophomore
Emme Ham (Plantation, Fla.) took fourth place in the women's 200-yard breaststroke (2:30.25) and freshman
Cristal Perdomo (Fredericksburg, Va.) was fifth overall in the women's 200-yard butterfly (2:16.48) for Barton.
In the men's competition, Barton freshman
Georgi Tsurev (Blagoevgrad, BULGARIA) took third place in 200-yard backstroke (1:56.80) and part of the Bulldogs' 200-yard freestyle relay that finished fourth overall (1:28.29). Tsurev was joined on the squad by freshman
David Szlobodnyik (Dunaujvaros, HUNGARY), sophomores
Roman Martinez (Willow Spring, N.C.) and
Ethan Maddrey (Sims, N.C.).
The Barton swimming teams will next compete in the East Carolina University Tri-Meet on Saturday, October 9, in Greenville, N.C., along with Chowan beginning at 1:00 p.m.
