HIGH POINT, N.C. – Barton College's Janae Cunningham has been named the Conference Carolinas Women's Outdoor Field Athlete of the Week, league officials announced earlier today.
Cunningham, a junior from Hubert, N.C., finished second in both the hammer throw (129'7") and shot put (35'1") at the Mary Washington Opener this past Saturday in Fredericksburg, Va. Both marks were good enough to qualify for the league championship. In addition, Cunningham took third place in the discus (101'7") and fourth in the javelin (95'9") at the meet as well.
Cunningham holds the school record in three events: discus (130'6"), hammer (135'10") and javelin (103'4"). As a freshman in 2017, Cunningham earned all-conference and All-Southeast Region honors in the discus throw.
Mount Olive's Celine Ritter was named the Conference Carolinas Women's Outdoor Track Athlete of the Week.
The Barton men's and women's outdoor track and field teams return to competition on Friday, March 22, and Saturday, March 23, in the Winthrop/Adidas Invitational in Rock Hill, S.C.
