Game two: Barton 10, Glenville State 7 (Seven inn.)
The second game of the afternoon provided Barton with its first real test of the season as the Pioneers scored six runs over the first two innings of play. The six runs came on just four hits as a costly BC fielding error and two passed balls aided in the Glenville State scoring.
Sophomore Gatlin Pate singled to begin the bottom of the second inning and quickly came around to score as senior Jacob Willis hit a two-run home run off the batters eye in center field to but Barton on the scoreboard.
Willis brought Barton within two runs of the Glenville State lead with his second home run of the game, another two-run blast, with one out in the bottom of the fourth inning. Sophomore Ricks Dearing drove in a run of his own with an RBI single before scoring on a throwing error just one batter later to tie the score at 6-all.
Barton had runners on the corners with two out following a Pearre single before Webster stepped to the plate. The Pittsboro, N.C. resident then sent a pitch to left field for his second long ball of the day and sixth of the season, scoring three runs and putting the Bulldogs ahead 9-6.
Dearing scored once more on a Pioneer wild pitch in the sixth inning, while Glenville State scored its final run on a Barton throwing error in the seventh to make the final tally 10-7 in favor of BC.
Senior Kerry Walker (3-0) collected his third win in as many games after allowing six runs (three earned) on six hits with seven strikeouts. Sophomore left-hander Ryan Pifer allowed one unearned run on one hit in the final inning of relief.
