HICKORY, N.C. – The Barton baseball team (7-25) fell to Lenoir-Rhyne (27-8-1), 9-5, Tuesday evening in a non-conference regional affair at Durham Field.
Lenoir-Rhyne's Matt Procopio (Horseheads, N.Y.) hit the game-winning, two-run double in the seventh inning while Sylas Boris (Greensboro, N.C.) hit a solo home run as the Bears rallied from a 5-2 deficit to sweep the season series from Barton.
The Bears beat the Bulldogs by a 14-9 score on Tuesday, March 24, in Wilson, N.C.
Barton was led by senior third baseman
Gregory Melo (New York, N.Y.) with three runs batted in while junior outfielder
Cameron Greenway (Greenville, N.C.) added three hits but the Bulldogs suffered their eighth straight loss.
On the mound, Lenoir-Rhyne's Preston Drebes (Creekmore, Tenn.) (6-1) pitched two scoreless innings in relief to earn the win while
Jordan Winslow (Elizabeth City, N.C.) (0-1) took the loss for the Bulldogs.
Barton remains on the road to take on Erskine in a Conference Carolinas game on Friday beginning at 3:00 p.m., in Due West, S.C.
Lenoir-Rhyne, meanwhile, remains at home to face Emory & Henry on Friday evening starting at 6:00 p.m.
