WILSON, N.C. – The Barton baseball team (7-22, 5-17) fell to rival Mount Olive (17-17, 10-12), 11-5, Friday afternoon in a Conference Carolinas weekend series opener at Nixon Field.
Mount Olive's Josh Mason (Morehead City, N.C.) hit two home runs while Garrett Moffett (Cary, N.C.) hit a bases-clearing triple as part of a five-run seventh frame as the Trojans used a late game surge to take the win.
Moffett finished with four RBI while Mason drove in three runs in the victory for the Trojans.
Mount Olive's Carson Gipson (Pikeville, N.C.) improved to 5-3 on the year after pitching into the seventh inning.

Cameron Greenway (Greenville, N.C.) and junior pitcher and designated player Marshall McDougall (Tampa, Fla.) both drove in a pair of runs in the setback. Barton freshman
Joshua Wolkin (Atlanta, Ga.) (2-1) was tagged with the loss.
Barton sophomore shortstop
Tyler Hughesman (Mooresville, N.C.) hit a solo home run in the first inning in the setback as well.
Barton and Mount Olive wrap up league weekend series on Saturday with a doubleheader beginning at Noon.
